Buy now or wait?

Yeah, I probably will pick up the '12 next week on my way through the town of the dealer (assuming he doesn't sell it between now and then). I just want to get as much input and perspectives as I can between now and then. I'm typically a penny pincher so spending anything over a few hundred on one thing is hard for me mentally. Thinking about this purchase is keeping me up at nights lol. I am also afraid of getting a lemon. My '06 has been a dream of a bike as far as reliability goes. As I said, I have over 1000 hours on it (99% trail) and have had zero engine mechanical issues that weren't caused by a crash. I worry that I may get a new bike, but it will be that one that rolls off the assembly line that didn't go together quite right and I will have all sorts of expensive problems prematurely.

I know what you mean about getting the one lemon in the bunch.  I dont think that is likely with the WR450F.

Something else to consider ....ask the dealer about the Customer Cash deal.  I see that Yami is offering $600 customer cash on '09-'12 WR450F's and $300 customer cash on '13 models.   These deals expire end of Sept.  You should ask the dealer if they are retaining the cash for you to receive the $6500 price or if you will receive the $600 directly from Yamaha to apply against their $6500 price.  I cant find the details.  You may have to take the 3.9% financing to get the deal, but as long as you can pay it off early (i.e. right away) it might be worth it.

I am not sure what the warranty is on the WR450F, but that may alleviate your concerns about protection against getting the one lemon in the bunch.  Or you can look into the cost of the Yamaha Extended Service (YES) protection.  I am not pushing any of these things....just some questions that come to mind after looking at the Yamaha motors web page.

I don't think getting a lemon is likely either as I have had a YZ250F, YZ450F, WR450F and haven't had any major mechanical issues with any of them so I am a big believer in Yamaha reliability.  I just can't help thinking about it though.

The $6500 price takes into account the $600 customer cash from Yamaha as did all the other quotes I got. I should be getting some more info from the dealer today, specifically about the Yamaha cash incentive for trade ins. That one really interests me.
