Pro-Wheel rims vs. Excel rims?? $100 less.

I noticed in the Moto-sport outlet catalog they have Pro-Wheel rims that are $100 cheaper (front and rear) than Excel. Has anybody heard of or used these rims before?? Are they just as strong as excel or D.I.D.??

I also wonder do rims really make that much of a difference if you use over size spokes on both??? (Strength wise)

I flat spotted both of my stock rims on my 03 CRF450. I check my spokes regulary.

I believe it does. The Excel rims are extruded from 7000-series aluminum, formed, welded, polished then anodized for strength and then put those BUCHANAN Over-sized spokes on with spline drive nipples and you will have No worries. ?

Now if you put something else on other than the Excel or stock(D.I.D.)than most likely you might get a flat spot sooner or later.

But as I said......I have never built a wheel using the Pro-Wheel rims, so I can't say 100% about them.

I flat spotted my Excel ? but my spokes never loosened up.

Me too Fred ?(already changed it out too ).......but I don't think there is ANY rim that won't get a flat spot. Just I think the Excel is stronger than others.

The Pro-Wheel Rims are made from 7116-1 series aluminum rims. At least thats what they say in the catalog ?.

I agree all rims can be "flat-spotted" it just seems on my other CR250's it took awhile for me to flat-spot them. I think I heard somewhere that the CRF450 rims (and new CR250's) run a lighter (weaker?) D.I.D. rim stock.

I guess I will try the Black Pro-Wheel rims with oversize spokes (either excel or Buchanon with spline drive nipples) and see how they hold up.

I also did a search for Pro-Wheel and couldn't find a website. I just wonder how long they have been out and what experience people have had.

Big rocks in high speed sections. And yes I run 13lbs, any more and you'll bounce off the trail.

I've got a set of Red Pro Wheel front and rear rims but I'm not much help as far as durability goes because they are still in the box. Haven't gotten around to mounting and using them yet. But they are made from 7000 serious aluminum just like Excel's and at half the price, unless they are soft as butter, you can't beat them. They look dang nice and appear to be stout. Time will tell. I couldn't find a website just for them either but motosport outlet sells them. $70 front and $80 rear I believe.

Anywayz, I am looking to see if anyone has actually used the Pro-Wheels. I am looking to get either Black or Red.

Any feedback on oversized spokes?? How much are they? Do you have to drill anything to install them?

Team Subway Honda uses them on their 450's, I saw them on their bikes at anaheim 1.

As for Over-sized spokes(Buchanan or Bulldog).....well worth the money ?, add strength and good looks at the same time. The set-up for 1 wheel which includes spokes and nipples(Spline drive) is about $70. You do have to drill the holes on the hub bigger, which is very easy to do. As for where to get them:

OK. I thought I'd report back with some more info I found.

According to "jeremy" from MotoSportOutlet:

Ryan Capes had them on his bike when he jumped the world distance jump!!

As for spokes etc.

1. I was told you can only use Excel Spokes or Bulldog spokes with Excel Rims.

2. You can only use bulldog spokes if you have the Excel hubs.

3. Spline drive nipples are only available for bulldog spokes.

4. The only anodized nipples are for bulldog spokes

Sooooo. I am looking at getting 2x ProWheel rims, and 2x sets of Buchanan oversized spokes with standard nipples!

quoted $64.95 for each set of spokes, $69.95 front red/black rim, and $79.95 for 19" red/black rear rim

Total $280

If Team Subway and Capes use them, they sure sound strong enough for me!!!
