2013 or 2014 yz 450?

im going to be buying a bike in the next week but i cant decide which to get. if i buy the 2013 i can have it by the weekend and its 2,000 less than the 2014. if i buy the 2014 it could be here at the beginin of next month or even not untill august. is the 2014 worth the wait do you think? i just destroyed my bike so i am currently riding nothing. sugestions?

I would wait for the 2014. But I hate the current YZ450f's, the new ones have to be better right?

Yamaha typically doesn't suffer from many 1st year bike issues, so I wouldn't worry about that.

My 12 is ok but I doubt I'd buy another YZ of this generation. I just find the chassis too unpredictable. I'd wait and see, if the 14s are great, the older ones will just be cheaper.

I'd have to ride a 14 first also as I hated the 10-13's. No way I'd buy a new 13 right now as you will lose your ass in the value the second you walk out the door.

Until they introduced the current models in '10. But I agree, I think/bet the '14 will be an excellent bike. They have had time to correct most of the stupid engineering. Finally. I just hope they got the 250 right, that's probably what I will get. Edited June 20, 2013 by YHGEORGE

it is a upgraded version of the current model. Yamaha had a lot of time to improve on a good bike. I ride kawi now and love my bike, but this new yz might make me switch!

well i did it, bought a 2014 yz 450. WOW! this bike is insane. i took a 2013 for a test ride and wasnt a fan after riding this thing. the biggest difference i noticed instantly was the front shrouds. so pumped on my choice.

Rode my riding buddies 14 last friday it was ok/rode it this friday 7/19/13 50 on the rear,remapped, suspension broken in,best stock bike I've ever ridden.The remap made the motor rip/ better than my other riding buddies 13 kx.Stock the suspension is excellent. Map is on yamaha web site,for stock or gtyr pipe(fmf) kills the stock 0 map.

The tuner makes a HUGE difference. You'll be amazed. I've played around with my '11 450 and tuned it from smooth and mellow campground runabout to top fuel drag bike. At idle you'll notice the sound from the engine is different. And at WOT under load it's a totally different machine.

The 14 stock map is off ,I rode his bike with another map (leaner right off bottom 3 instead of4 @1/4 throttle) close to the map from yamaha(not the preston map) really good, best map so far on CA. 91,the yz runs better on pump gas than the u4 we had.
