I'm not sure if this is the place to make this post, but I need some help. I have a 2012 TE 300 Husaberg and am having starter issues. The starter will not stay engaged. The dealer recommended trying different shims in the starter, but this did not help at all. Is there something else in the starter that is causing this? I have had this problem since the bike was new, but now the starter just spins out all the time. Help!!

I agree 100%. If you bought the bike new and its a 2012, it is a warenty issue and should still be covered by KTM.

The electric starter problem is a known issue for a while now. You could bang your head against a wall wishing it was covered by warranty, or start down the list of known fixes. Go to slavensracing.com video section. Jeff has a number of videos on how to prevent the problem (too late) and how to rebuild/fix the problem. The prevention is basically keeping the bendix gears from drying out. His wet mod is well received. I haven't done that yet but every 30 to 50 hours I regrease the gears in there. No problems so far, 165 hrs on my 12 TE250.

I have the same bike and the same issues. Technically its a re-starter, so make sure your bike is always warmed up before you use the button. My starter lags and won't turn the bike over even with a Shorai battery. It kick starts so easy I just forget about the button, but will do the Slavens mods very soon. Good luck, I've always had issues with this starter............

I had 82 hours on my 12 te250 and cleaned the starter ever 15 hours and never had a problem. It's really down to cleaning if you don't clean the unit it will stop working. My 13 now has 34 hours and no issues starts from cold with no issue its more the weaker battery that stops them starting from cold. Clean the bendix in petrol and wd40 it up get some light grease for the gears and get a good battery to give it more oopmh to start. Imo clean it every 15-20 hours and you won't need the oil mod.

I've done the cleaning at about 10 hours and have checked the spacing and brushes as well. Maybe I have a lemon? It never starts the bike.
