Nit Wit Comment. I would never break into someones home. I would however have the fortitude to right a wrong.  Is your family proud of your lack of manliness? I guess tampons come in man sizes! Grow a set!

Wow, okay dude.

Let's review the situation here: You had a motorcycle stolen from you 20 years ago, and now based on a picture you saw on Craig's List, you're ready tp go take the bike.  You have no idea where the current owner got it, or if the bike is even yours.  You then asked for advice on an internet forum, and completely disregarded advice I gave you about legally getting the bike back (IF IT IS YOURS).

Let's say you go look at the bike and the VIN is scratched out.  Then what?  Are you suggesting that your bike was the only one of this particular model that was ever stolen?  Have a little common sense.  Doing anything the "illegal way" is a good way to spend a night in jail and still not have the bike.  If you want to go off on a half-cocked plan to steal a motorcycle worth approximately $300, then by all means do so.  Let us know how it goes for you.

Mind if I ask what has you thinking it may be yours? If you only had it 3 days,it must have looked like every other 1993 RM/CR/KX/YZ 125/250 that rolled off the showroom floor. Did you customize it in a way that caught your eye?

And how does that prove its your bike.   Missing vin numbers can happen from many things..  shit throttle cables rubbing the frame can mess up a vin.  My bike has the first couple wore off from my throttle cables moving.  If your going to do something illegal don't put it on the internet

I didn't say what yr/make/model it was for a reason. There was only 7 of this model sold on L.I. @ the time. The ad in question is a completely stock bike w/low hrs. Theives dont put $ into a bike that can be impounded at any time, and this bike is almost all stock, no paperwork and cheap! Look, if  im wrong, Ill eat a shit sandwich. I did find one of the bikes locally years ago, but couldnt find an adress. I thought the TT community would encourage me to pursue theifs. Sorry if im politically incorrect!

Agreed, but if vin numbers are deliberately removed, thats a different story.

First research about getting vin numbers researched.
Then if that works go look at it. Write down the vin and use the search you found. If its stolen ask the guy about the previous owner. Ask if he has the title. See how he acts. If he chokes up a bit and doesnt answer clearly then he might be your guy. But theres really no proof and you wouldn't be able to just take it back. Too old of a case i would think. U can just buy it back even though it sucks.

So a missing vin automatically makes it yours?  Only 7 models were sold on L.I.  no possible way for any others to get there over the past 20 years?

you could be right! Bikes with missing vins should be owned by everyone! Not even worth investigating! Obama lover!

Goodnight all! If you dont think you should investigate a bike you think was stolen from you, you never deserved the bike anyway!
