What do you do about top end kits? Do you have to go through EG and thats it? Or does he give you part numbers for Wiseco pistons/ gaskets or any other brands? This might be a deal breaker for me and the 265 kit if the only person I can get my parts from is EG...[/size]
Just get the part number from him, Wiseco makes 265 displacement pistons for the CR250R.

If you are worried about the bb kit, just have him do his porting and have the head modified.  Keep the bore size stock.  I would bet you won't be disapointed with that.

Went ahead and sent it out today. It's getting a 265 with mid-top porting for pump fuel. They offer 20% after market parts when you get work done by them. So a 265 too end kit will only cost me about $175~. Not to bad. Just have to go through them for it. Can't wait for this thing to be built. Only thing left to do on the bike is plastics and graphics with number and it'll be a "works" bike. Nothing major left to do on it now

My 03 cr250 I sent to him because it didn't run like I wanted it to and it really woke it up... But it still doesn't have the hit that I was wanting. Woods and all I would go with mid to top powerband because it is still really torquey and smooth

After 40 years of moto, I've figured out that what people "want" and what people "need" are usually two different things.

I agree with camP. I am building my bike pretty close to stock because for me I can never use all the power this bike has anyways and I can adjust the power to my riding style with a gnarly pipe and rekluse clutch.

Very true. Me, I don't need hardly bottom end, or as much as I would benefit from have a solid mid-top. Just bc of how I ride and the tracks I ride. That's why I'm going with the mid-top.

But CamPsaid:

"If I was going to have EG do an engine for a serious MX racer, I would suggest a low/mid port job with a race gas head. That's essentially what I have and one of the fastest amateurs in the country, a multi-time Loretta's Champ, has been riding my bike lately, and he loves it"

not mi'd to top.-

I'd also recomend having 05-07 motor port work done for mid to top as it lacks in comparison to my 03 motor.  The 07 motor has a good low to mid pull but signs off in the top like an 02 & 04 YZ 250's  owned.  Like you for my type of riding style I'm in the mid to top part of the powerband when I ride at local tracks.  It really depends on your type of riding style & tracks.   I don't think you'll be disapointed in the mods as the case reed motor has some serious potential after engine mods.

Went ahead and called him again just to make sure on the 265. Have no idea where you got your information on the 2005-2007s not being able to have the 265...

Ill be sending my stuff out to him Tuesday for a 265 kit and mid-top port. Should be good. Have a 3-4 week wait though, but I will post a build thread with pics with it all when I have it in my hands

Im not bs'ing...i spoke w/ him over the phone about doing a 265 some years ago. Maybe it was b/c we spoke back in '06, and so he hadn't done one b/fore?

But it's all good now, times have changed, he figured it out, and now looks like you're  getting yours done through him.

I'd imagine. That was 7 years ago lol

Id also like to go with his mo betta port but it seems like most people seem to be just happy with it, no ones really raving about it, that's why Im trying to decide between him and PC.

from what i understand pc only offers 1 porting option ... so you will either like it or hate it. have you considered where exactly you need "more" or for what reason.

I have had 3 cylinders with different porting work and in one case the bike made a lot more power ... translating into wheel spin and a very un-nerving powerband for the ridding i do.

sometimes less is more

I had mine done by him a couple of summers ago before i went off for college.  Had my 04 cr 250 bored out to the 265 with the betta everywhere power.  Everything was great, except for the time.  Still on the same top end honestly, so it holds up well.  If you go through him, just be patient
