Just received today, quite tidy and starts well off a kick or the button.
Just noticed after warm that it is a bit rumbly with the clutch lever released and in neutral, pull the lever and it goes nice and quiet.
any ideas or common symptoms, I have just stepped off a 05 CRF450R and I don't like this noise.
Unsure of the full hours, came from a bike shop with $800 New Zealand dollars of receipts for valve shims, fork seals , wheel bearings, filter and oil etc.

That is a normal Yamaha thing.
Every WR I've had does it.
Kind of a deep rumble, that is un-even in sound.

Doesn't sound 'right', but it is.

Yah, I have a 2004 wr 450f. I'm coming off a Husky TE 250 - sounds are a bit different to say the least!! I like the Yami sound fitted with the GTYR exhaust tip. Lots of usable power range. Down low has a 'rumble'-esque sound to it (probably from the baffles) then you crank and it almost hummsss... Power and Sound brings a smile every time :jawdrop:

What a fun bike - Need to fix the clutch lever - its a bit more reluctant then I want. Not to hijack the thread, but any nice after market Clutch levers with easy resistance. Is there a resistance adjustment screw on factory?

whatsitmatter, actually talking about the engine noise, not the exhaust note, but thanks for the input... I am yet to ride the bike on a dirt trail yet, but already not too sure of the power coming off a CRF450R, I know I am to expect different, but it seems like a chalk n cheese scenario.
I need to firstly get rid of the pea shooter exhaust, and was searching what mods can be done on the original pipe for not many $$$.

The clutch does make some noise that changes when the lever is pulled in (goes away). But it isn't a overwelming chatter, grinding or clanking. Maybe pull the clutch and check all the parts for wear especally the thrust bearing on the pressure plate. The Yamaha motor does have quite a bit of gear sounds going on and that is brought to your attention more with a quiet exhaust.

As far as exhaust goes for cheap I had great luck with the GYTR insert, it isn't perfect but it works. I just got a FMF Q4 and the bike does run better with that over the GYTR but if you have a budget you will be happy and pass sound checks.

does anyone have an idea if an 06-09 yzf rear fender will fit my wr450 f 04 model, even with a small easy mod?

I have the alloy frame WR front and rear fenders on mine, the previous owner fitted them and it doesn't look like they took alot of modifying:

I put a YZ style fender on mine but used a Acerbis Part# 1002180088 that Rocky Mtn MC showed fit a 03-06 WR, it fit easily but I did have to trim a bit of plastic off it somewhere. They show different part numbers for the YZ models.

Sounds like you can help me a lot.
I also need to get rid of all the wasted weight on the front, speedo, light, electrics, turn signal console... where do i break into the loom, will it all disconnect nicely and leave me able to start the bike etc?

I've gotten a little noise out of my transmission since brand new. After a few cycles of running Amsoil it quieted down a bit.

The YZ fender doesn't have the holes cut out of it on the left side for something I can't remember what. But I put a YZ fender on my WR for the track. Took all of 10 min to knock out the holes that need to be knocked out that are already there just not knocked out when they made the mold. You will see take your WR fender off and compare it to the YZ you will see what I mean. Its been two years since I had my 04 WR.

Its the hole for the catch tank plumbing. Most fenders have it molded but I've heard one don't. Either way its all of 10 minutes to "fix" them. I have a YZ rear on my 04 as well.

The equivalent era yz rear guard fits perfectly, just have to trim a little for the expansion tank mounting. I have one on my 04 wr

I prefer that better compared to the alloy frame rear guard, poor seat to guard transition looks cheap and nasty.
