2008 WR450F with 2006 YZ suspension and cams

Recommended Posts

What fork height above top triple did you find works best with the YZ forks?

Are they the same length as the WR forks? I thought I read that they are a couple mm shorter.

I am picking up my 07 YZ forks and WR shock from Pro-Action today.

I had them do the works I even opted for their piston in the rear shock. I figured I was already spending the cash so why not.

I am lucky that their original HQ is literally only 5 miles from my house. I can have them rework the forks and shock if I do not like the feel.

Those are questions of personal preference.

I am 6'4" 240lbs so my recommendations don't work too well for most riders.

OK, so fork stiction mystery solved;

- cheap-ass no-name bushings and seals were used by the previous tuner.

Even with the oil out of the forks, you could not move the forks with one hand....

We will put in SKF seals and bushings, and that will be that, along with some minor valving changes.

Next is the front wheel repair, taller seat, Dynatex plug-in, and then, FINALLY, another test ride.

Do you know if the YZ forks are the same length as the WR forks?

I want to start with the stock WR geometry flush with the fork tube.

My WR forks are sitting at my brothers shop boxed up and ready to sell and I forgot to measure the length.

UPDATE:

As mentioned many times here, the flat spot after adding the cams was intolerable.

Bad ignition? TPS? coil? Carb?

What the Fork !!!!

Well, it turned out to be a combination of things:

- TPS: way out at full throttle; now corrected

- Ignition (stock): no working map #2, so it was slow. The Dynatek improved that problem; now it has more throttle response and very little flat spot.

- But the main culprit was the AIR CUT VALVE: it has supposedly been modified already, but it was done wrong!

I took the spring out, took out the blockage in the passage (100 air screw already in there), and Bingo.......much better running at 1/8 to 3/4 throttle

So now, I can put back the NCVS needle, and the flat spot should be GONE FOREVER.....

Oh, and there will be an update on the re-re-re-valving and re-re-springing of the suspension.

This time I had STERIC RACING do the suspension, and I am trying it out tomorrow.

MAN 'O MAN, do I not want to go through that tuning nightmare again.........

Steric Racing Suspension works well.

Today's ride went well, even if the power is still not right. Still peaky.

32 miles of very fast very rough hard-as-rocks dirt.

Combined with the Bridgestone M403 90/100 front tire, this thing is sooo easy to ride.

After the ride I modifed air-cut valve even further: removed spring and diaphragm and made full gasket to block everything.

Still with 100 air jet, and changed to JD Red needle (#5).

Tiny bit better, but still sluggish at 1/4 throttle and up at low rpms.

Can't figure it out..........

At this point, I ready to put in the stock cams.......

Hey Krannie I see a lot of guys using ® and (s) diameter needles could not find any succes with these leaner needles

With more than 12 months on and off playing with the jetting changing pilot air jets ,mains pilots you name it ,Ihave come up with a great combo which might help you out.

WR450 2007

EX.cam mod

GYTR pipe

42 pilot

75 pilot air

NFPR needle 4 th clip (YZ 250 F NEEDLE)

165 Main

Coaster enrichner valve intacked and working

Tan colour spark plug

14 kms to the lite

SEA LEVEL

The (P) L1 is the same as the JD needle

Did you keep the stock 75 pilot air jet?

Oops just saw it.

OK, tried the NFPR needle today, with positive results.

Less of a flat spot at lower rpms (3500-5000) with no change anywhere else.

It seems that if I keep the throttle to 1/2 or less, it runs quite well, and quite quick.

If I grab for more throttle, it does not change, just more intake honk, until it gets up to about 6500rpm, then it takes off.

Now I'm thinking my main is too small?

I've never had this kind of issue....
