Graphics, plain or numbers?

Okay, so here's my dilemma...

My buddy is an AMA motocrosser, very accomplished and has a boot camp and the whole deal.

He's done a bunch of work on my WR, but wants me to wear his graphics on my bike now.

Not sure how I feel about it, but they have numbers on them, my name and all that good stuff, but other than the local enduro's, occasional hare scramble and lots of dual sports and trail rides, I don't race....and I think I might feel kind of dooshy riding with it.

Thoughts?

I personally like numbers even if you don't race. I don't like having the plain white number plates. Who cares what other people think? I have numbers on my bike and i don't race. Make your bike how you want to make it.

Feeling like a douche shouldn't happen. I am going to try a race this year, and generally haven't run numbers on most of my bikes. I decided I like the way they look, and the number I chose has significance, it's my wedding anniversary. If everybody wants to be too cool for numbers (or not cool enough), so be it. Run your bike how you want. I admit the bike in the pic is a little busy for me, I'm not a big graphics guy, or really stickers for that matter. Here's my new bike with my poser numbers, I think it looks cool, and don't we all kinda want a cool looking bike?

I'll put the front plate number background on if I end up racing, until then I like it how it is. The only reason to feel weird is if you really care what the cool guys think, I don't!

Good point, maybe there s a compromise. Maybe I'll take some off and tone t down, he should be cool with that.

He did use my number from my road race track days, so at least there's some consistency.

To me riding with numbers if you arent racing is silly. Just a step about the guys riding with number 69 or 420 on their plate.

The biggest reason I dont like it is that it draws attention and easier to ID you. If you have a plate on your bike it makes you a target for the cops and if you are riding off road and for some reason you should happen to cross land that perhaps you shouldnt be on, they know #32 on the blue bike was the offender.

Now if you are behind the starting gate for a AMA National I say go with it.

I've been thinking about this since I got my WR. It's completely bare and I think it would look better with a graphics kit, but I don't really want to spend money on it. My opinion is that it's your bike so set it up how you like it. If they're your friends graphics he'd better be helping you out with deals from his sponsors.

If he is your buddy and has done a ton of free work to your bike then run them for him. He wants the advertisement, help him out. I not a huge fan of his color scheme but to each his own. My son and I are sponsored through a local suspension shop and a local cycle shop so we run their graphics. They help us out allot and give us a discount on everything. It's just paying them back for their help. I also speak highly of them with anyone I talk to. Have to do your part to keep the sport going.

If you are where you are supposed to be, and not doing things you aren't supposed to why would being anonymous be an issue? It's no different than buying a red car because you like red. I guess I'm not worried about hiding from the cops, never had to. Oops, it's 420, gotta go.

When riding in NJ it's best to remain as anonymous as possible. You aren't paranoid if they're out to get you.

I'm not a 15 year old spinning donuts in someone's farm. If you are a racing, you need numbers to be identified on the track. If you are running numbers and don't race, I guess that shows you are someone that has a desire to look like a person that does

True story, I was just browsing the internet with my 5 year old daughter in my lap, and she sees the picture of your bike. She says "you should buy that bike, it's faster than yours". I ask her how she knows, and she says "because it has more stickers than your motorcycle". I think that should help you make up your mind, cuz even a 5yr old girl knows it will be way faster with the graphics.?

Wow, you got me pegged buddy. Damn, wish I could be as judgem...cool as you!! You keep it up in that glass house. I'm 40, and enjoy riding all the time with my son, we got our number backgrounds at the same time. I appreciate your judgement, and luckily don't care what you think. I do love it when guys like you come around to tell the rest of us how it is, or should be.

Read my above post, I said I thought they looked cool, thanks for your mastery of the obvious. I also mentioned that I plan to try a race this year. I even called them my poser numbers.

See, I feel the same way about the numbers. In my track days you had to have numbers, but then it became if you had no background, white background or yellow background. None for track days, yellow for novice racer and white for expert racer.

I think at this point I'll keep the fender graphics and lose the rest, at least until they 'peel off' on their own...

Not sure if you are trying to be nice or mean? Either way my dyno run after number plate backgrounds yielded 3 more HP.

Just imagine if I put a full graphics package on it!!

Awww, I have numbers on my dualsport, but I race it! I don't have numbers on my race bike...but it feels so good beating guys on my worn out bone stock KTM......with no numbers!

I don't think it makes my bike look faster, I think it makes my bike look nicer. Underneath those graphics are scratched up and stress marked plastics. I got the graphics and numbers cheap, but I don't have enough for new plastics. So why not cover them up with some cheaper good looking graphics? I guess I'm a poser now!?

Hey ! its your bike that YOU own ! put anything on it that makes you happy . Numbers=racers???? Crap ! anybody can pay an entry fee and slap a transponder on and go racing . Does it make them somepne special ? Nope . I know guys that are pretty good on the track but hit trees in thr woods .lol. an A rider will never look at you as a poser because you have numbers and dont race , but an immature scrub may , anyway , if he does , hit him in the mouth and he wont do it again . Ride what you want how you want ,,,,, dude , its yours !
