Hi All,

Just wanted to make sure that everyone know's it's official. Odessa is going to get after the dirtbike thing in a big way this spring!

Here's what's going on in a nut shell.
March 27th: Stumpjumpers Frostbite
March 28th: Stumpjumpers White Knuckle
April 7, 8 and 9: Odessa Bike Week dirt bike trade show.
April 10th: Stumpjumpers 40th annual Desert 100 family poker run and mini race
April 11th: Stumpjumpers 40th annual Desert 100 race.

We're opening up our ground for camping and riding AFTER the White Knuckle race. Officially that'll start April 7 but if you want to stay here for the two weeks between races you are welcome.

Come out to Odessa during the week and avoid the last minute rush trying to get over the pass and out to the Desert 100 site on Friday. Come to Odessa Monday or Tuesday, ride all week, check out the trade show etc. then casually move out to the Desert 100 site later in the week.

I'm really excited about the trade show. As far as I can tell there is not another dirt bike only trade show in the entire North West. We'll have demo bikes to ride (I think we'll even have quads and side by sides for you farmers and ranchers!), mechanics to fix things etc. You'll be able to check out the latest gear and accessories down town in the community center.

This is the first time we've (Odessa) done many of these things so feel free to send us your ideas and such. Also keep a close idea on the following web sites, we'll update (and change as needed) them as quickly as we can when new information becomes available.

This is really something new and cool... Maybe reach out to organizations like the NMA / WOHVA / Blue Ribbon Coalition to see if they can attend the trade show or at least send some materials that can be made available...

The thought of being able to take your time getting over to the Desert 100 site on Friday but still beating the masses, would definitely be cool... Odessa has all the supplies you need to re-stock for the Desert 100 and you can grab a latte on your way out of town:thumbsup:

Marlon if you don't mind, I will take a second to put on my "Race Chairman Hat" and make sure that everyone here on TT understands that there is absolutely NO public access to the Desert 100 Site before Friday AM, 4/9. Thanks in advance for everyone's understanding! "Race Chairman" hat off:busted:

I hope this works out well and continues for years to come.

Um...so there I was coming out of a checkpoint at last year's White Knuckle when I see Rhino standing there with his camera and before my common sense kicked in I threw out a dumb little leg kick for the camera. Oh well, no biggie I guess. Except that now that pic is the first one on the bikeweek website!!! :banghead:

Maybe later in the year when it's nicer host some kind of elf ling dual sport ride starting and finishing in Odessa taking riders on dirt/trails taking riders up in the scenic ponderosa country just north of Odessa. It would give me an excuse ti finally get that dual sport kit for my 525.
It would be cool to see another dirt bike Mecca type town the way Cle elum used to be.

Do the super poker run or whatever they call it. Saturday before the Dez100 you run the coarse once and then head out to DS. Did it a few years ago and it was FUN!

A buch of us SJMC members did the Dirtface Dual sport last June over at Lake Wenatchee. Now that was a blast!

On a side note, when in Odessa 2 weekends ago, a few of spoke to the DNR manager from Wenatchee to Spokane region (name eludes me right now.) She wanted our input about DNR opening some land N of Odessa and what we would like...well, I told her, ST of course:thumbsup: with a good level lot to camp at, etc...

She was amazed that I would drive all the way from Auburn to Odessa and home to ride. Whether anything opens yet remains to be seen.

So is the camping spot the same location as the 2009 White Knuckle? Just trying to get an idea what type of riding the kidos would have if we went out there Monday and Tuesday. Kent Schools only have 2 days spring break this year because of the darn strike. We are planning on doing the Dez 100 Poker runs and then watch the race on Sunday, but riding Monday and Tuesday sounds good too. Hmm, how much school could they miss? :p

And how old was this kid? :busted:

How long is the short and long courses of the white knuckle?

per NMA rules

short - 1 1/2 hrs in length
long - 2 1/2 hrs in length

Course is pretty much the same, just a question of how many laps can you get in during that time frame.

WA Odessa Bike Week: Very, very cool idea.

My only suggestion: keep it as family friendly as possible. Many of the big street bike gatherings have devolved to the point that no parents would want their kids within 100 miles of them - think Sturgis.

Just about all the dirt bike people I know are about as family friendly as you can get, but just thought I would throw it out there.

Now, where's my kid? Hey you! Yeah you, the 6 year old. Be a good kid and get dad's cigarettes and while you're at it, get me another beer. And get one for yourself while you're at it....

Sooooooo. What would be cool would be to have reasonably secure place to park the toybox between events so I don't have to drag it for two round trips....

Bikeweek is very much a family focused event. On Thursday we're going to have a family dance. We're going to hold it at the community center where the vendors will be stationed. We've decided on a DJ so that there is a good mix of music.

Naturally we'll have food there. And, with any luck, I can convince the state to let us serve beer as well as pop for it.

I'm still working on transportation from the camping/riding area to the community center, but I'm pretty sure we'll have a bus running.

See ya soon!

How secure is secure? I'm trying to get a fenced (but unlocked) area down town for just such a thing. No promises yet though.

Any guesses as to how many would leave their things here for the two weeks between events?

Couple questions:

1. dirtbike week on the 7th and 8th involves some riding available to us?
2. is there camping there ? i know about the existing rv park and all "in town".
3. how far from town will this all be?

thanks, sounds awesome so far

Joe
