Is the two-stroke going to come back in Direct Injection anytime soon....with all the goodies - aluminum frames and what not. Spoke to a dealer today. He said last year and years before last - the sales of 4-stroke to 2-stroke was 20 to 1, but, he said people are now requesting 2-strokes for purchase because of money/maintenence. Kind of felt that if it keeps up, the manufacturers are going to have to pay attention. Who knows, instead of redevelopment of the two stroke, they'll do what car dealers do - like over some sort of maintenence package free. Who knows.
DI is supposed be if I heard correctly bette for tne enviornment?

Think of it like rock and rap... Rock was on top for a long time. Now the rap stuff is here... One day rock will return; its only inevitable... :smirk:
People get tired of fads...
Got a buddy with an RMZ 450 that (in the time I've owned my 2t), he was shimmed his valves, done a complete top end, reshimmed his valves, and now has it torn apart again to fix some timing chain issue (or so he thinks).
It took me a few months to get the $ and the knowledge together to get mine running, but man, I haven't done anything but put fuel in and change the trans oil since August. When people get tired of spending more time wrenching then riding, we'll see a resurgence of 2t's. Until then, keep praying for ROCK!:)

Look at the outboard motor companies. Big push for 4T's a few years back and now they have state of the art 2T's with direct inject.
I dont know if we will ever see Suzuki bring out a new smoker. I kind of agree with previous posters in other threads about this matter in which the thought of why would Suzuki bring back a simple and durable two stroke when there is so much more money to be made in the 4st line.
I mean look at how many guys are keeping there 90's/early 2000's RM's up and running versus the guys fixing the 2003 & up 4 strokers. The general outlook of a pinger is keep the topend fresh, change the tranny oil every now and again and the lil smoker will last you twenty years versus a guy trying to sell his very pretty 05 RMZ/YZF/CRF/KXF only to find out he cant give the damn thing away unless he has proof it has a brand new rebuilt powerplant.
I think the big 4 jap companies (I guess Yama can be excluded) look at it in the sales figures. They can sell one smoker to a guy every 10 years vs selling a 4stroker to the same guy every other year because the fear of the 4st engine being flat warnout after only a year of riding. Plus the cost of rebuild parts for the 4 vs the 2st is a no brainer for their parts revenue.
Just my opinion and Im still hoping that if one of the big 4 comes out with a totally new smoker with some cool upgrades such as DI/FI the others will follow to keep up. Until then, my old 04 RM does the deed just fine.

i miss my 04 rm250 :-( i jumped on the band wagon and sold my rm for a rmz, think i spent nealy 1/4 of what i paid for the bike on services and a rebuild in the first year of owning it, now going back to a 2t..
