NEWS Tuesday 27th October 2009

Five times World motocross Champion Joel Smets is going to participate in the world’s first international Enduro race for zero pollution motorcycles – International Eco Enduro – taking place under the United Nations Climate change conference (COP15) in Copenhagen this December.

International Eco Enduro is the world's first international, enduro and MX race for electric motorcycles and the purpose of the race is to show the world that mechanical sports can be environmentally responsible and is prepared to seek new ways and innovative solutions.

"I think it's an incredibly exciting project," says Joel Smets, who have had the opportunity to try one of the Quantya motorcycles that are used during the race in Denmark. "I have been in contact with the Belgian Quantya importer and tried to ride the motorcycles. It was a very good experience for me and there is no doubt that the electric motor racing is an important part of the future. "

"I am also double exited to come to Denmark," the Belgian former world champion continues "I was in transit in Denmark for a few months ago with my family and that included a visit to a beach south of Køge, it was a really nice place "smiles Joel Smets, knowing that in the days from 10th-13th December when the International Eco Enduro takes place, the bathing temperature will be somewhat lower…

However it is a coincidence that Joel Smets visited that part of Denmark, because part of the International Eco Enduro takes place just a few kilometers from there, as the first training sessions will be run on Baron Ivan Reedtz-Thotts property “Strandgård” south of Faxe December 10th, followed by races on both “Strandgård” and Faxe quarry December 11th, races in the klinte forest December 12th and finals in Copenhagen December 13th.

Among the ambassadors for the International Eco Enduro Is: Brian Jorgensen: Former Motocross GP rider and now national motocross coach in Denmark. John Nielsen: World history first Danish winner of the 24-hour Le Mans. Robbin Harms: Denmark's best Road Racing rider with a number of years participation in MotoGP and now a part of the 2009 Supersport World Championship.

Smets will certainly not only by his driving skills but also help with its inexhaustible wealth of experience make an important contribution to the development of Husqvarna vehicles. In the coming weeks there will be further talks, which is fixed in the cooperation.

We are hoping to win Joel to participate in the races for the German Cross Country Championship in 2010 and as brand ambassadors.

it's good to see a top motocrosser help re-focus the husky MX brand,
although Joel was always a BIG bike guy,
not sure where this may lead .. larger Huskys again..??

the Quantya has been well publicised , and well rated for years now,
But have Husky got an interest?, or is this a BMW tie-in?,
just curious,
Charlie

Actually it's kind of funny how things work!

Quantya was founded in 2006 by Claudio Dick who was formerly the General Director of Cagiva.

Electric Motorcycle Quantya - Motorcycle Show Appearance

http://www.mxlarge.com/storage/Image/thumbs_big//electric%20bike%202009.JPG

News Thursday 05th November 2009
The Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show is set to go green with the news that Quantya will be displaying their highly innovative electric motorcycles at the Show, which runs from 27th November - 6th December at Birmingham’s NEC.

The ground breaking electric-powered bikes will also be available to ride as part of the Show’s new indoor Off-Road experience. Hand built in Switzerland using British-made electric motors, Quantya intend to grow the market of forward-thinking, eco-friendly commuters and fun-loving adrenaline seekers.

Comparable in size, weight and performance to a 125cc petrol bike, Quantya are both quick off the mark and extremely easy to ride. Most importantly the Quantya bikes do not emit any harmful fumes, are virtually silent, and, with only nine moving parts, cost almost nothing to maintain and even less to run.

The Quantya Track is a dedicated off-road machine that has been designed to put the broadest smile on even the most experienced dirt biker’s face. It has already proven extremely reliable and popular after extensive testing in Europe’s bike hire and ride centres.

The Quantya Strada is a softer, road-going trail bike that affords city commuters and weekend trail riders a stylish and practical alternative to a petrol-powered vehicle and is years ahead of its competition.

Ian Mitchell-Innes, Director of Quantya UK Ltd says: “We think it is important that people not only get to see, but also ‘feel’ the power and performance of our two new models. It is a great way for us to dispel the myths and express the progress and advantages of electric power, while also having fun with potential customers and the public.”

Finlay McAllan, Managing Director of MCI Exhibitions, added: “The Show has always been a leader in bringing the latest developments in the biking world to the consumer and we’re delighted that we will be able to showcase such innovative bikes as the Quantyas.”
