I run 18psi. up front and no less than 16psi. out back. Any less and you will get pinch flats all day long in the rocks.

I made my first trip up there to ride in 1980. We stopped at Waynesville cycle to get some ideas where to ride. This was the exact area . I remember riding across the college campus back then. My friends bought 30 acres on Round mountain from some locals who lived on Wolf mountain. We met them looking for shelter during a lightning and thunder storm. We called them the Duke Boys. They had 2 infant sons and now they're coming to your ride thanks to me. My friend Mike moved to Franklin 20 years ago and this is like my home away from home.Mike is a motorcycle mechanic . I was there 6 times last year mostly with my 650 Dakar. I'm looking forward to riding with and meeting you guys........Richard

I hear tale of about 7 Raleigh boys comin' up, one more from the same area, 1 from Tennessee, and a squad from Upstate New York. Hell I don't know.

Don't discount the Florida boys either.

First time I met Johnny Africa on a guided tour he said he was from Florida. But he had an English accent (sumbitch is from South Africa...Rock Heaven). I asked him if he had ever rode in the rocks. He told me his other bike was a Beta trials bike....

This is him blowing by me on a trail we'll be on.... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYNyiYcxv-4)

Sure there's a ton 'of FL. boys who can't hang in the rocks like they thrash in the sugar sand, but there's a ton more who can. And they clan up in the FTR club. I've met many. And I've rode in Florida (Osceola) with 'em.

There are locals here in WNC who have ridden here all there life. I am one of 'em. Been hittin' these rocks since I was 6 on the YZ-inger 50. Some are very fast, and some I can rip their shiite wide open through the rocks like they belong in D-Class.

Beyond all the rambling........this is a DS ride, not a race, and all are welcome. Even the freakin' Florida sugar-sand crowd. :)

Been rainning, is raining, is going to rain! or at least showers for the weekend, so the hill climb at the bottom of wet camp will be a riot! Hate to get muddy, but love a good hill climb, and every think will be a little harder this weekend then it is normaly! But bring it on!

This is the ''Wet Camp'' Hillclimb you're talkin' about at the beginning. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9TVeQZ7Mk0)

Same one, just starting from where the last vid left off. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InKVB1J6e3g)

And then, this is when you don't make it up. Sometimes it's tricky but look to the right...there is a way around it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7scLTGB8WHU)

I've only been riding dirt for a year now (6 months of which were on a '78 XL250) - so something a liiiiiittle less crazy than a full-on enduro is jez' fine!

Not to say I won't tackle anything that presents itself (hillclimbs, rocky singletrack, etc.)

As of June this year the Jeep guys had made improvements probably made it easier. That climb ain't that bad. At the top the hill if you take the right fork...the fun begins...not say I have down that way....lol

No. That's a hillclimb on the route, not a driveway. Damnit Pressley.

The hillclimb has a quick and easy bypass and you'll be informed of that as we go. Funny thing about WNC is this: You either have gravel, or a hillclimb trail. There's never really anything in between because we're in the mountains. Now if anyone here is familiar with Bernie's rides, I can put it in perspective.

We ride in the same general areas. BUT, we always ''take the high road'' if you know what I mean. :ride:

Hell I think it's worse if you go down. Here, going up, I got buried up but was still on 2 wheels at least.

Johnny Africa got a little bit off center in this one. I'm not sure why. The ruts are only what...3 feet deep? :)

There is really nothing in this area that isn't ridable or a bypass around it.

What's the plan for Sunday?

That depends on how much we get in on Saturday. There is more than enough to go around for 2 full days, and we'll make route decisions after Saturday.
