Google will get you all the info that you need...but basically you need to see a cardiologist and have the area ablated. Do you know if you are orthodromic or antidromic?

Since this just happened you should be evaluated by a cardiologist and you may have to wear a holter monitor to track your rhythm, take medication and/or have a procedure to stop the rapid rate. Although wolf parkinson white can be benigh it can have other consiquences and you should be followed by a cardiologist!

Wolf Parkinson White or WPW is a increased heart rate due to an abnormal pathway in the heart that allows the circuit of conduction between the upper chambers and lower chambers of the heart to loop.

Fast heart rates i.e. tachycardia cause light headedness, dizzyness, fainting due to the fact that the heart is beating so fast the chambers cannot fill completely and your blood flow drops to the rest of your body (decreased cardiac output)

If you have underlying heart disease you can have chest pain but WPW is usually seen in the younger population with normal heart function, its more common in males and the risk decreases as we get older.

There are 2 types as davbrucas points out, orthodromic (more common) or antidromic. Health care providers will tell you the type by how your ECG (picture of electrical activity of the heart) looks.

If you experience a rapid heart rate you can try vagal maneuvers like bearing down with your abdomen as if you are having a bowel movement. This will sometimes flip the rhythm back into a normal rhythm. But you should only try this under the direction of your cardiologist if they say its ok to try before seeking medical treatment.

If the rhythm becomes frequent or the symptoms interfere with your daily life an ablation of the accessory pathway can be performed. The ablation is usually an overnight stay in the hospital to monitor your heart rhythm. A needle stick in the groin area to access your heart and catheters are used to locate the accessory pathway, burn or ablate the area in your heart. Ablation is not 100% successful but its minimally invasive and most patients have good success with it.

Two great web sites are http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/wolff-parkinson-white-syndrome/DS00923/DSECTION=1 which is more for people with no healthcare background and http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/TOPIC644.HTM which is geared more toward the health care provider and a little more technical.

Hope this helps and follow up with your cardiologist!
