I just wanted to see who everyone thought is the best lites(i hate that name):banghead: rider. I want to hear who AND WHY. Not just "oh I like Josh Grant because I rode with him at a local track once" or something stupid like that! Give reasons why.

Ryan Dungey and Trey canard because of their perfect technique and good form...my parents say that i am smooth like them, but lack the speed.

i think you would have to give it to RV right now. But by the end of this year that thought may change. Trey Carnard looks impressive right now but I havent seen him come through the pack yet like some of the others have.

yeah i know what your saying because RV is so freaking fast, but right now he's not riding the best. I really cant wait to see the East/West shootout, I love watching that race every year because you finally get to see all of them together. Im not so sure RV is going to have the same year he did last year. Who knows his wrists might still be bothering him when it comes time for the outdoors and if thats the case who knows who will win. Dungey, Canard, Lawrence(hate even thinking of him doing well), Stroupe, Metcalfe. I hope its a little more interesting this coming year with outdoors. Correct me if I'm wrong but the green bikes won every moto last year except the lone win by Josh Grant at High Point in the first moto.

A racer is only as good as his last race.
I would like to see all of the current crop of lites riders do the whole outdoor series and see where the chips fall.
Sx is fairly specialized. Previous experience and the team you are on are big factors.
Outdoors, longer motos in a double format are a better test of a rider in my opinion.

trey canard is the best this year because he lead all of the laps exepted for 1 this year. RV is still fast this year but with trey canard doing so good it got into his head.

Right now I would have to say RV.... but last year at red bud I saw canard outdoors and knew right then that Josh grants ride was in jepordy.
Canard is coming on and outdoors will tell the tale. Just my .2.
Wiemer or weimer the west lites honda guy is no pooch either.
I think there is a good chance they will move Dungy up next year

whoever said ryan dungey has good technique should download every lites west torrent available from 08, he has atleast 27 errors per race (exag) , jason lawrence is by far my favorite, he's pretty chill to hang with in the pits at englishtown and atco too. His riding style is just so different and i've grown onto it, I like it alot. He's like a fast squid lol. I'm starting to like treynard too, he seems super chill and humble on the podium. He seems to have the drive to keep going/training and racing for his father.

Did you even read the originial post and what the question was. He specifically said to give reasins why whichever rider you chose was the best, and not just that "i chilled with them onoce anad the werer pretty cool.":banghead:

I like ryan dungey's riding style but only when he is on his A-game. Some nights it just seems like hes losing it

If you base it on past history I'd have to say RV. Look at what he has done the past two years and the Pro Circuit team is the best. Townley DNF'd the first round and still won the East last year so RV still has a chance. But he has to get on the gas or TC will run off and hide with the East title. :ride:

Right now Canard is flying and to me its amazing that these young kids that were amatures less than a year ago can go out ther and kick a$$ the way they do.
However RV is in my opinion the best lights rider out there. He is off to a bad start but he is still faster than Canard. i think his problem is that everybody expected him to come out this year and clean house and all the hype has created a ton of pressure on him and I think that he feels that he has "live up" to the hype. no matter how good he is he is still really a kid and that must be alot of pressure for such a young kid to have to deal with.
I think that in the end it will make him better and someday he is going to be up there with RC someday.

now by "best" do we mean most consistent or just plain fastest?
cuz if its going off consistency its obviously canard i mean c'mon hes won every race he has been in.
fastests its definatly villopoto, his lap times are faster than at least 2/3s of the supercross class

Im kinda surprised noone even mentioned AC 222. I was at the MXdN and AC was right there behind RV for the first lap of the second moto until he crashed(yeah i know it was only 2/3 of the first lap, but both of them pulled like 5 seconds on everyone else). I look forward to seeing how AC does this year, if he can dominate as much as last year.

I didnt just say supercross, or right now, or even an American rider. I asked who you guys thought was the best lites rider(not necessarily this very minute) but overall. If you want to think about SX/ MX or whatever X you want to. WHo do you guys think is the overall best. Doesnt have to be the fastest or most consistant, but the BEST.

Good start and consistency are a huge part but raw speed is an even bigger part. TC is good really good but not great. He doesnt have the ability to take it up a notch yet or maybe he never will. When RV got into 2nd at indy he closed the gap fast. I mean that was really fast and TC did nothing. The best riders have the ability to cruise around consistanly and if someone comes close they light the wick and pull away. Or they just pull away from the begging and go on cruise control. RV is hands down the best lites rider. Everyone says wait til outdoor and then we will see. Well we did see last year and TC amounted to nothing more than a little blip on the radar. I would put stroupe infront of TC anyway. That kid is showing the growing pains of coming up and is getting them out now he will be gnarly in the future. Dungey was kinda the same way as TC and all of a sudden things didnt click right and his clean smooth style fell apart. Smooth riders like dungey are awesome until they get squirley then it starts to get ugly. I dont care if TC wins the title we could always use another Shae Bentley or Brandon Jesseman. Grant is out.His head got bigger than his helmet and now the bar is raised and he is coming up short. Jlaw is a tool but is a cool tool. I dont know where to put him. He has the speed but is super incosistant sometimes.

RV no doubt. People don't realize how bad is wrist injury is/was. He had surgery again 10 days before the first race. I think he is only riding at 80-90% right now. I like Canard and I am very impressed I just don't think he is racing RV at full speed.

I think it will be interesting to see how things shape up in the outdoors. RV should be healed by then. DUngey wont have any pressure then cuz the sx title will be his or lawrences. Lawrence will hopefully be in better shape. Canard and Stroupe should be fighting for podiums and maybe wins. Mettcalfe, Hepler, and Grant should do decent, but I think this is their year to lay it all on the line, I wasnt too impressed with any of them last year and they're only getting older(which usually isnt good). We havent seen Dan Reardon ride MX yet. Townley's riding a 450 in MX right? If not he will be up at the front, but I dont think he has what RV has speed wise. I tihnk Izzi will be a top ten rider but thats about it, maybe top 5 on a good day. Did I miss anyone that could be a contender?

I believe that Jason Lawrence would be the best if he would stay consistent. He's just as fast if not faster than RV2, and has proved that he can take on everyone else this year at Supercross. If only he would stay consistent, he would be golden then.
Dungey is being bred to be the next Ricky, and I love him because he's a MN kid, and he exploded into Supercross this season which was unexpected of him.
Josh Grant has always been good, and I expect him to beat RV this year in Supercross and take the title for East Coast.
Trey Canard? I don't like him, he's retarded. He doesn't take things seriously enough and I believe he's just a fluke.
I think Nico Izzi is someone who will be a surprise this season, especially outdoors, because he's got the talent, he just needs to figure out how to use it.
Stroupe is always going to be two steps behind of RV, and I believe that's what's holding him back from being better.
As for RV, what can I say, he's insane, absolutely incredible for his age, he's not my favorite, but he's definitely the best.

There are so many things I see wrong with this. Ill go in order. I agree with you somewhat on saying that Lawrence is fast at SX, but Dungey is just as fast. I think that right now they are the fastest two in SX. I think RV is next(because hes injured) then Canard or Stroupe. But Lawrence is only winning because Dungey wrecks 2-3 times a race and still gets 5th. If he only wrecked once each race he could get a podium.
Dungey exploded into SX??? NO He exploded into SX last year when he won the first race he entered. I expected Dungey to win more races this year, than he has.
Grant is OUT of the title fight in the East unless something crazy happens to Canard/ RV and even then I think Sipes would still beat Grant.
I agree with you saying that Canard is a bit of a goof off, but he's having fun..and thats what you need to do sometimes to do well. IF you keep it serious all the time you'll get tired real quick. And his first or second moto last year in outdoors he got 4th place. The other moto at Millville he got a DNF and was running well, so he's not a fluke.
And Izzi, dont get me started on him, IMO hes Josh Hill # 2. He prob. doesnt train hard and his results will show that.
And for STroupe yeah right now you're right but everyone else is at least 2 steps behind RV in outdoors so i dont see your point there.
I do respect and appreciate your opinion, but I dont think it's very accurate.I guess we'll see after SX and MX.
