I am going to have to get ACL surgery again and want to get a start on getting on the bike now whether I go to Dr. Mark (need to check my insurance) or do it locally. What is better, upright stationary bike or the sit down recumbent bikes?

I have found a few used bikes locally and want to get started ASAP. Thanks.

I had an upright bike a few years ago and always had the "numbing" effects if I rode a long time. I even replaced the seat with one designed to correct the issue. Ended up buying an elliptical.

After ACL surgery I bought a recumbent bike. I ride it about an hour a day and still get some "numbing" but not as bad.

Try them both and buy the one you will actually use!!!!

Anyone else have opinion? I'm looking also. What does DR Mark have in his rehab?

I think Dr Mark recommends a upright. Just from what Ive read, the upright works the quads a little more than a recumbent. The recumbent is a Little better for the glutes.

I had my acl done and used a upright, got me back on the 450 quicker than i thought. I didn't evan need therapy.

I reccommend the upright bike. Its is closer to riding a motorcycle. The recubant works the gluteal muscles and is good for cardiac rehab in elderly folks.

Am I elderly? I'll be 51 in June. I keep getting all this AARP stuff in mail! Maybe I should call them & ask what MX tracks give AARP discounts.
