Hi, first post and looking for some info.

Looking to get the family into dirtbikes next year. We will be bashing/motorcross, and was looking for a brand that can accomodate 32yr male, 29yr old wife, 2yr old son, 4yr old son. It appears there will be a gap for the 4yr old for the next bike. Right now he is the only one with a bike(Jr50 suzuki).

Any suggestion's on what bike for my 4yr old(will be 5 at time of purchase) old son who will be giving the jr to his lil brother next year. He will have a good bit of expirience then as he rides alot now.

Here is the 4 yr old.

Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, & Yamaha all have a good line up of bikes for your family and you can't go wrong with either of them. They all have a entry level line up.

Honda...

Ride Orange!!

KTM has a perfect bike size for everyone.

If your son is ready for a better bike w/o going up a lot in engine displacement... the KTM's are far superior to all the other 50's availible. There is really no comparing them on suspension, braking, or engine performance.

For the wife... take a look at the 144cc bike that is now availible. People have been loving that sized bike, I've heard really good things... no bad yet.

For you... take your pick. KTM makes a bunch of bikes, for MX style you'd probably go with an SX250.

The initial cost of KTM's is the first thing you might notice, but take a close look at the bikes. They are awesome, attention to every detail, bearings where most manufactures have a bushing or not even that! Cost of maintaining them is no more or less than anything else.

All the manufactures have bikes for almost anyone. Honda makes the 150cc 4T which would be a good bike for your wife also. CRF 50, 70, 80, 100 could be the next bikes for your kids. About the same for Yami's TTR series... good bikes. The 110cc bikes are very popular with the kids too, Kawi might be the only man. building one though.

If you are not too sure that your wife and kids want to keep riding then buy used. Just get something that has been maintained and is the right price. XR200R or 100 for the wife... then the kids will grow into it, size-wise, performance-wise, if they have been riding... they won't want to ride the XR's... they are kind of dogs, but indestructable.

Ride Orange... did I already say that?

Thanks for the responses. I did check out KTM and they seem to have the best "next model" for him thanks:thumbsup: . Most brands have a 22" seat height then jump up considerable amount after that introduction bike. KTM looks to have a whole category to address this situation. kudos for them.:worthy:

This one seems nice!

Honda has served my family well
Me crf450
wife crf150
Son crf150 (looking to get him on a YZ or CR 125)
Son #2 CRF100
daughter xr50

I tend to lean toward Honda or Yami, but Kawi and Suzuki have full lines to take care of the family as well.

We don't have a KTM dealer close so I have a hard time considering them. Find a good dealer that will give you fair deals and one that is staffed by riders.

enjoy

Do plenty of you try to negotiate the price of these bikes? I'm sure there are some ways try to make deals one way or the other, especially if your buying for the family:ride: .

I have never bought new bikes in bulk before :smirk: , but dealers are negotiable on everything... especially if you are paying cash (or at least have your own financing.). A co-worker bought 3 new bikes at a Honda dealer and got fantastic prices on them. They can negotiate some on the price of the bike, then to sweeten the deal have them thrown in gear, gas cans, extra filters, oil, etc.

Stroke of genius- Have them throw in comm. gear, headsets or whatnot.

Having a dealer close is a good thing, but I wouldn't consider it a deal killer. Most stuff is bought online these days anyways... there is a lot web support for KTM.

Don't buy Honda, they are Sierra Club supporters.

KTM is a good option for your boy. He's already riding a beginner bike so the two stroke MX 50s would be great for him.

For you and the wife you might want to look at the MX bikes from the Kaw, Yam, and Suz. After all they are much less expensive than the equivilant KTM and unless you're a hardcore racer you don't need all the high end stuff on the KTMs anyway.

I wouldn't suggest sticking with one brand for the whole family anyway. And I would suggest buying used for all three bikes, unless you need to finance it.

Thanks for the reply's, would say a 125sx be too much for my wife. The only bike she has ever riden was my old 1990 cr125 10yrs ago just one or two times and she liked it but, or would a trail/off road bike be better?

here is a pic of our family

How about height/weight and purpose? Should help. Refer to the sticky.

KTM builds great bikes but, the 50 is notorious for smoking clutches and they are expensive. Try the Cobra instead.

For you, start out on the CRF250X, its a good bike and the electric start will come in handy with riding along side the little ones.

For the Wife, a Honda CRF150 will work great and it will last forever.

For son #1 go with a Cobra when he is ready.

Keep the Suzuki for son #2.

You can eventually move up to a 450 later on and the Mrs. can take over you CRF250X. When Junior number one move up he can ride momma's 150 and #2 will be ready to step up to the Cobra.

My sone is 6 and he is riding a CRF50, he will outgrow it in about another year. My daughter who is 9 is riding a TRX70 (quad) and is ready to start riding on two wheels. Mrs. Flea either rides her Trail 90 or our daughters quad, and she is ready for the CRF150. It won't be but a year or two and my daughter will be ready for a CRF150 herself.

I hope this info helps. If you are looking for electric start on all of the bikes go Yamaha. Either way, Blue or Red you can't go wrong.
