a 2 stroke valve is not even a valve, its a port ..... except for the power valve.... therefore no matter what, the port is always fixed, it does not have an open/close characteristic in itself.... opening and closing is performed by the piston passing over the port at the down stroke to suck in fuel/air and on the compression/exhaust stroke for power and exhausting... repeadatly... thus you have a 2stroke ... 2 seperate strokes for the motor to perform the job...

ha ha ha, that's the funniest thing ive read in a while on here! ever here of the four strokes; intake, compresion, combustion, exhaust. if exhaust and intake happened at the same time it'd be called a 3 stroke.
1)Intake stroke - (intake valves only are open, piston going down drawing fuel/air mixture)
2)Compression & Combustion stroke - (all valves closed, piston rising in cylinder, compressing the fuel/air mixture and the ignition system igniting the mixture)
3)Power Stroke - (all valves closed, The force of the combustion/explosion of fuel/air in small area driving the piston down with extreme force creating power and drive)
4)Exhaust Stroke - (exhaust valves only are open, piston rising to push out exhaust from combustion, at which point the piston rises to its highest point and prepares to go back down and begin its intake stroke) This process continues to follow the exact same cycle, 4 different strokes, thus giving it the name 4-stroke....or 4 cycle engine.....

if you had the intake valve open during an exhaust stroke it would cause severe failure of the valve train, bend the valve most likely, backfire through the intake, burn the valve seals, backfire through the carb, etc.... big time problem if your floating an intake valve during an exhaust stroke - these cannot be open at the same time.... never....
Its called overlap, look into it

Have fun with the 14 paddle and the 35 shot on the 500 this weekend. :worthy:

What Brit said. Spend a few minutes of your day in an attempt to understand valve timing and overlap then get back with me. If you've ever rotated a 4 stroke engine over by hand with the cam/valve cover off you might have a shot at figuring this one out. :D Theories can be explained until you're blue in the face, but you'll change your tune in a hurry the first time you see a 2 stroke detroit diesel generator engine with both a turbocharger AND a supercharger attached. Or a turbocharged Banshee, or sled, etc. As long as the turbo is placed past the expansion pipe, it'll work fine.

That's why it can build pressure, the exhaust valve independently of the piston.

The 35 shot was fun as hell but sucked, nothing but vertical the second I hit the switch.
The bike ran tits in the dunes but the NOS was a pain to dial in.
Overall the bike ran great this weekend, I ran 10 gallons of C12 through her and 6lb of nitrous. I was having bad bottle pressure and rich issues, I eventually got it pulling hard with a 28 NOS jet and a 22 Fuel jet. It was all wheelie happy fun and games untill the WOT switch stuck on about 25 ft from the top of competition hill in dumont. After some crazy paniked seconds I pulled the kill cord and ate shit right at the razor. I honestly though I was gonna launch off a 800 foot razor back....
Im changing the wot switch design :censored: .

dont nitrous bottles have to sit on a 15 deg angle for the siphon tube to work...or is there bottles made to mount any direction for bikes and stuff.

Brit make sure you didn't have a air leak @ the base gasket???:busted:
My base went and when i tore her apart had the same small crack going as you have!! Glad i took her apart before she blew completely!!!
Also that is very common with CR 500s

Its common with cast pistons not with forged wisecos like I have :banghead:
I dont think the freezing nos hitting a screaming hot intake skirt helps matters.

go to jawbone canyon and try the widowmaker hill climb. CR500s are the only bikes I have every seen make it to the top. Maybe a few 650s but that is about it. Have fun and be safe!
I ride all arnd Red Rock Canyon, Cal City, 395, Randsburg/Johanesburg, Bean Canyon, etc, and have never been to widowmaker. How do you get there?

Did some wrenchin today and got her pretty much done apart from the pipe and intake.
GSS did a bitchin job on the top end for me :D
Studs installed, I chased the the barrel threads with a tap then cleaned 'em out with carb cleaner and compressed air, then wound the studs in as hard as I could pull. I put a stock '89 top end next to it for comparison.
