I hope your CRF450 is built up a little, or your seat of the pants dyno is off, because I watched a mildly modified KTM 380 smoke countless CRF450R time and time again this weekend...
Edit: Ah, I see now that they only built a 300. Still I hope we must be stronger than an average CRF450.
My CRF450R (http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/garage.php?do=viewvehicle&vid=373) is stock, save a lowboy header in terms of engine/intake. It's ALL I'll ever need as an off-road bike motor-wise. My comment was a point of reference for the readers, wanting to better understand how the DRZ475TT performs. I still and will always subscribe to the 95% rider theory, as I've seen it time and time and gain.

Im on this site, but are also on ktmtalk. Some one from this site gave crf's only a clutch after they burned it up and blamed it on a ktmtalk rider, you were saying that the drz could pull people out on doubles, the ktmtalk bike did bring people out on doubles. Thank you brian on the comment on our bike, we needed it after crf's only bashing us, why didnt the drz go on the long ride? Bobby
After the first leg of the test, the lunch break turned into a marathon two hours and we didn't drive 8 hours to sit around, so we went out to tear it up. But, as it has been said, being our first time to the riding area, we got lost for a little while and by the time we got back, the group had taken off. We tried hard to find them, but we didn't think we needed to surpass the 10,000 elevation level to do so.

no wats sa mircle is, hopping on ur drz crusing the freeway at 90mph for half hour, pull off to some sick trails, meet some guys on 450x's, smoke there ass, and wheelie on over to ride the MX track and smoke some vet class riders while honking your horn over that double, and then wheelie home. den next day throw on the sm wheels, wheelie the 40 miles to the track, smoke everyone in slight and then wheelie home again.........................
That is not a miracle.........but rather, it is a dream.

Bryan Bosch, I didn't realize that this was all about your entertainment. It's good you didn't let DR's testing stand in the way of your fun. Too bad the other forums didn't know the DRZ wasn't part of DR's testing so the rumors of " break down and not up to the test" wouldn't have been posted. But you had fun, that's what's important to everyone who donated parts and time I'm sure. I sorry you were bored but did any other bike miss the ride? This is most likely a post I'll regret but I just get so tired of people's self gratification coming before anyone or anything else.

First off - I'm the one that was riding the bike.
Second - this was not a test day, this was a meet and greet ride day. Dirt Rider has the bikes fur a full two weeks to test them until their heart's content.
Third - If you think I'm going to make an 8 hour drive in Sunday traffic heading back to LA from Vegas and not ride once I get there, I need the name and number of your pharmacist because I want some of the drugs you're on.
Fourth - If I'm not going to ride it, I could have put the bike in it's crate and shipped it to DR for a lot less than the time and money is costs to drive up there.
Fifth - Anyone that doesn't like the fact that I took the bike for a ride - BUILD YOUR OWN ENTRY NEXT YEAR - then you can do whatever you want with it.
Sixth - the loop those guys went on involved a 6 mile section covered with a foot and a half of snow (according to reports), so far out/up that half the bikes ran out of gas and couldn't even get back. And one of the bikes broke down, leaving the guys scrambling with less than an hour of daylight to get gas and parts up the mountain. Last time I checked, we built a dual sport, not a snow mobile. So I'm actually pretty damn happy I didn't have to deal with that entire snow ride.
And if you think taking a DRZ over a 25 double 30 times to get pretty pictures, log climbing, and running out of gas in the snow have anything to do with the real Dirt Rider testing, then you might want to go back to the beginning and read the purpose the TT bike was built for.
And as for "did any other bike miss the ride". I guess that depends on your perspective. From where I'm sitting, several of them missed part of the ride (the part where you actually make it back to where you started without getting stranded).

It makes sense once you have the whole story, but I too initially thought this was the testing and that the DRZ missed a good chunk of it. Its implied on the other boards that it wasnt up to the task in some way. I think we are all anxious to see the real article, so we are assuming every bit of info we get is going in the magazine in some way.

there was nothing about any of the tasks that the drz wasnt up to.thats including the ones it wasnt built to do.
some of the other bikes were allowed to be taken back to the respective homes for some upkeep/repairs.the drz was left with dirt rider.

Brian Wilson, I've got to give you credit on two points:
1) you stepped right up and said "First off - I'm the one that was riding the bike."
and
2) you make it clear that the DRZ is yours to do with what you please
"Third - If you think I'm going to make an 8 hour drive in Sunday traffic heading back to LA from Vegas and not ride once I get there, I need the name and number of your pharmacist because I want some of the drugs you're on.

So I guess I owe both of you an apology since I had thought the DRZ was built to represent the TT board when in fact it was built for your personal gratification. So let me end with a I sorry for being wrong on my understanding of the purpose of the DRZ build. And I still wish it had gone on the trail ride to hell because I'm sure it would have taken everything in stride and shown it's the great bike we all believe it to be. Good job everyone!
This whole DR / web forum kafafel would make an interesting sociology experiment.
It seems it has caused ill feelings on all the forums except DRN where it has really been sort of under the radar.
Magazines are not worthy of worship.

You're a moron. All the website owners got together on that day and rode the bikes. What is so hard to understand about that? So Brian got lost and the others left without him, you're making a huge deal out of nothing.

Or rather , a nightmare.For CRF owners.
I love showing up at rides with my slow-zuki. The CRF-WRF riders just can't figure out how i can keep up with them on my basically stock S.

How ever taking off on a personal ride and being separated from the rest of the group is neither meeting or greeting. does that make it clearer for you?
I'm not kicking about Brian riding the DRZ. My point is he should have not left the group. If you're getting bored, how about suggesting EVERYONE go for a ride, that way the DRZ would not miss a single chance to shine. And if they still aren't ready to ride meet and greet some more. We are all adults, in spite of the petty name calling (theclone and Toast), suck it up be an adult and deal with being bored.

Blah, blah, blah... Whatever dude. The bike will be at Dirt Rider until the 26thish and it was dropped off on the 3rd. If they can't test the bike in a month, oh well. Geez, the bike was built in not much more time that that. But, thanks for your concern. I can't believe we even pulled the bike off without your direction. We'll be sure to contact you next time.
You guys did a great job. :worthy: Thank you for the time, effort ambition and expertise!! :applause:

I think it's more like 99.9%.
I'm gonna say this again because nobody has responded to it in the past, OUR bike is gonna kick ass and surprise a lot of people here (in our forum) in the testing. It's gonna make a huge impression on some of the testers.
DR tested stock dual sports last summer and declared the DRZ400S the best in the dirt. That was a STOCK bike basically (it had different rubber and a DynoJet kit- not a 3x3).
I think too many people are worried about what some of the other boards are saying about OUR bike. I think DR will treat us right.

I really don't care what the article says when it comes out. Sure it would be cool and offer some bragging rights to the winner, but my sense is that they will declare every bike a winner in some fashion. And rightfully so. The major forums rose to the challenge, built beautiful examples of very different machines, and got them done and delivered in record time.
We know that the TT bike is awesome and the only one that is street legal. We also know that many very talented people had a hand in it's creation. I'm interested in the article only from the stand point that I want to learn more about the other bikes that were there.
I own a DRZ, I know what it can do, and what it can't. I also know what I can do and what I can't. For me it's the best choice. I'm OK with that. I still admire other bikes for what they are, and in the hands of a better rider, what they can do.
I have enjoyed the storyline thus far, I have learned alot about what my bike is capable of becoming, and who knows, I may take it in that direction,.....or not.
Admire the work, creativity , craftsmanship, camaraderie, and just plain fun for what it is. That's all. :ride:

The other boards must be awefuly concerned about the TT DRZ...
I heard a rumor that the DRZ threw a rod on the trip where you got "lost" and you had to do a trail side repair. Of course you had all the spare parts in your fanny pack (rod, bearings, parts cleaner, etc...) and just missed the Donner Party ride. Sure is funny how this whole project gets blown up (no pun intended). What fun! This is all in fun right...
There is a fine line between being lost and having to much fun to figure out how to get back to the staging area in a timely fashion. :)
