I was thumbing through the mail today and saw the harbour freight ad  and saw a 4.5HP 21 gallon central pneumatic air compressor for like 150 bucks and was wondering if anyone has this one, or anything by central pneumatic? If so, are you satisfied with the product? I mean, for the price, you cant beat it, and im not looking for anything special, just something for filling tires, a few small air tools, and maybe the ocasional small paint project.

Try to find out where it was made. Since I lost my 2nd job to some guys over seas I try to buy things that were made in the USA if at all possible. :usa: :usa: :usa:

These are for sure made overseas just like everything else at harbor freight. You’re hard pressed to find any tools not made overseas these days. They are good quality and work fine. Not industrial strength but fine for what you mentioned.

I like to buy American also but it is very hard. We have a Ford F-150 and a Ford Focus and they both are littered with parts not built in the USA. What can you do?

 :usa:

Check to see if the thing is oiless. If it is, they are loud so you'll hear the thing all over your house when it turns on.

Half of what I buy from Harbor Freight is junk, the other half works fine. All of it is cheap.

Lot No. 47065 Compressor
It probably will be loud as hell.
Good news: 21 gal is a lot of air.
Bad news: 21 gal takes a long time to fill.
Oilless usually have a belt drive from the motor to the pump. Run quietly.

I have a 2hp, 6gal Coleman compressor. Really loud. Works well unless I need lots of air for grinding.

My HF portable air tank had a broken guage.
Returned it for another. This one leaked.
I fixed on leak and found another valve leak.
It's 40 miles to HF, so I gave up.

You can buy anything cheap and it runs and works. Probably for a long time if you keep the tank drained of water. If you buy a cast iron belt driven compressor like campbell hausefeld, they will cost double ($300-$400) over a harbor freight priced unit. I have had two and sold the first one to get a bigger one. Both ran 10-12 years trouble free. Harbor freight products might not have parts available when they need it. That's the biggest drawback.
