The Shootout at OK Corral
   Why should they be in a hurry,,,no other company can beat their old bikes
KTM tried but had to run back to the drawing board, Honda has been spouting off about their bike for 2 years and still no dealer has one on the floor (just pictures & promises) Kawasuki now is recalling their bikes almost the same week they're released.
From all the ground breaking innovations on the new crop of 250F's from Kawasuki & the preproduction CRF test bike, Yamaha might as well run out some more 03's with BNG for 04.
what are they (Blue) waiting for..........
Maybe '04

In the end....
It sweet for all us riders?
A bit frustrating at times now, but in a couple of months, the threads will be full of fixes, mods, jetting and the lamenting and whining of those that cant ride until spring
Only thing that matters is it just means more CHOICES and better bikes for all us dreamers! (Come on now, Bob Hannah can still kick every ones collective ThumperTalk butts on a Honda Trail 90 still to this day, even if we were on the latest 250fzfmzd model 2, with the free mods, Detroit timing, and the new Power Spoke Now installed)
I hope they all make some final tweaks....
Remember no warranties on these things...so whatever they fix at the factory is one less thread and [@#$%&!] here, and less of a headache for the dealers and factory reputations.
Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzawaki or whatever it is....
Blue
Red
Yellow
Green.....
You choose!
Refine the heck out of em there factories....get it right!
Now that is what is kewl about it all!

hey ol timer, you better take your arisept
didn't honda's crf450 win bike of the year and 4 stroke shootouts in almost all the mags in its first and second year ('02-'03)?? only yamacross action poopoo'd the crf...
i'm thinking (okay, i'm hoping ) honda will come out in honda fashion with a class leading 250f like they did with the crf450, 600rr, etc.

Your right! Honda does own more Mag's than Yamaha
i'm thinking (okay, i'm hoping ) honda will come out in honda fashion with a class leading 250f
You forget, there wouldn't be a 250F had in not been for Yamaha. They're not class leading, they're class catching up.
like they did with the crf450,
What was Henry riding when he won that Natl. ? and what was Everts on this year when he won? ooh,,,,, what where we talking about something about class leading CRF-450?
I just hope that RC does climb aboard the CRF-450 then we'll know for sure it's the best thumper when he opps I mean it wins.
600rr, etc
I know nothing about those.
I like Honda's, I have owned Honda's, I will own another Honda, but I wont blow smoke just cuz it's red.

Kawasuki now is recalling their bikes almost the same week they're released
Take a look on the RM-Z250/KX250F forum. The "recall" is to add some washers to a plate to reduce an oil seepage. While it is technically correct to call it a recall, it's not a major issue as you seem to imply.

And in that same thread you'll also notice I gave them a  for doing so. I also entered the problem I had with cracked tanks which Yamaha replaced but never seemed to admit to a problem a lot of us had.

arisept is the new wonder drug for ol' timers with alzheimers. helps clear the mind and boost memory recall.  :D perhaps we should both see if our AARP cards will qualify us for a senior discount!!!
You forget, there wouldn't be a 250F had in not been for Yamaha. They're not class leading, they're class catching up.
in its first model year, the crf caught and passed the class. they just haven't entered the class.... yet!
you're right though, there wouldn't be ANY competitive thumping in MX if it weren't for yamaha. from a guy who said "i'd never ride a 4-stroke" in 1997... i only own and consider 4-strokes now... what a change and it is all due to yamaha.
What was Henry riding when he won that Natl. ?
a hand-built factory prototype bike more trick than the bikes ferry, windham, cobra, reed are riding today??
and what was Everts on this year when he won?
and what was everts racing against... a ktm 4-stroke and a suzuki rm?? puhleeeeez. everts is the winningest rider in gp history. are you going to go out and buy a cr250 because ricky is the winningest rider in u.s. history and no other 4-stoke except a crf has beaton him?
600rr, etc
I know nothing about those.
honda was getting thier butts kicked in all markets segments. in 2000(iirc), top management made a commitment and promised to regain market leadership in the critical market segments in an effort to keep dealers from defecting. as a result, they have been turning out the best bikes in the competive 600cc / 1000cc sport bikes and 125cc / 250cc dirt bikes. hiring away ricky and the crf450 were first in '02. the 600rr and windham were next in '03. the crf250, 1000rr and ???? will be in '04. it's nice to see the renewed motivation in honda and to see honda move away from their overly conservative, stoggy corporate culture. yamaha has the segments for 125cc play bike(ttr125), 125cc 2 stroke, 125cc class (yz250f), 250cc 2 stroke. suzuki has the 1000cc sport (gsxr1000). hd has the cruizer mkt.
I like Honda's, I have owned Honda's, I will own another Honda, but I wont blow smoke just cuz it's red.
i also like honda's. i've also owned honda's. i will also own another honda, but i don't blow smoke just cuz it's red, blue, yellow, orange or green.

Ummmm, sorry. KTM NEVER claimed their 250 EXC four stroke was competition for the YZ/WR.
The Twin cam RFS is still on the way.
Oh and ANYTIME one color bike wins ANYTHING the riders of other colors SCREAM the same old song. "They bought the shootout"
Last year every Red, Orange, Yellow or Green rider was bitching because the Blue bikes won all the shoot outs.
Now the Blue riders are bitching about the Red bikes buying the mags.
I've seen a lot of orange in the mags lately so pretty soon I'm sure KTM will have bought their way to the top. :moon:

I miss the days when I bought my '01 WRF and came home from work each day to read about the latest mod on Thumper Talk. Maybe I'll have to buy the CRF just to experience that again!

Um, actually Ferry beat him on a YZ450F. He didn't get the overall win, but he won a moto.

Come on boys
All bikes are different....the best bike for the job won't always be liked by some individual, and the best rider can beat you on a pig....
We obviously all have our favourites...me I haven't owned a Yamaha 4 stroke but riding them doesn't do it for me. Power like light switches isn't my thing.
Hondas have always fitted me but they haven't always built the bike I wanted.
KTM build the best off-road 4 strokes, (well maybe not in the 250, nice but maybe not fast enough), but I bet some of you still prefer to ride light switch Yamahas. (KTM build the best Off-road 2 strokes as well!!)
Yamaha wasn't the first lightweight competitive 4 stroke....heard of Husquarna/Husaberg? Yamaha was the first Japanese manufacturer to produce this type of bike. They can be credited with popularising this form of bike. They have had spectacular success with fast development of these bikes, early releases and good reliability considering how quickly they were distributed. They took risks in this area and were fortunate the bikes lasted. Good on them, we are are all lucky as a result of their efforts.
Honda have made a name on reliability and predicability and do not want to sacrifice that just to try and compete with another manufacturer who is not so risk adverse. They also want to be competitive, but they are careful to not release product that is not going to meet the required standards. Might have lost a couple of years of sales but buyers are fickle, if they get it right there will be plenty of blue riders out there turning red. Witness the CRF450.
Honda got burned with the 4 valve RE XR line years ago and learned that lesson.
Brand loyalty is an on-going personal opinion, an argument not able to be won. I like what I like, the only time I turn into a fool is when I dislike what I don't know about!!
KTM 300EXC....next KTM 450/525 EXC?? and maybe Honda CRF250F??

I like what Hawaii Rider said, more choices for all of us. Not to mention, more competition = more innovation and quality.
All I know is I can't wait

This is cool.Yamaha scared ? NO. Worried maybe their sales will drop a little because Honda will stop buying those blue bikes to take back to their place so they can figure out what makes them so fast.Maybe thats why their waiting for honda to finally get their,s out first so honda will buy some more 04,s to disect. That,s probebly what ktm is doing because they dont,t have to rush on the 250 four stroke because they already have a 125 2 stroke that can out run the other 2 and 4 strokes. :applause:
