you know your wife really loves you... PART 2

Recommended Posts

guys,

a good friend once told me that for real excitement you should do it with your loved one in every room in the house. last year we did it in the kitchen and it was great.

this year we decided to do it in the living room, and boy it's even sweeter this time around! who says you don't get better with age? it does mean you have to clean up afterwards but if you put a drop cloth down you won't get the rug messed up. just be careful which way you initially point the rear end since once you're in position you don't have a lot of maneuvering ability.

for the young'uns reading this, i'm talking about the annual linkage teardown, to go along with the usual winter maintenance activity... so get your mind out of the gutter and click below.

They're working man. How do I know? Your wife is in the picture. More importantly she is smiling.

Next time you want to tear it down you can do it at my place. I have plenty of room. Oh, you will have to come to Oklahoma though! ? Then of course we'd have to go riding before letting you go all the way back home without knowing it's put together properly. Me thinks the wife might not smile at that one. :D

jim,

i just looked at the "livingroom" pic.

you have WAY too much stuff on that bike still.

remove the steering stem and swing arm. then you'll be in "tore down" mode.

ya'll are too neat. i need MUCH more room than that for a tear down.

where's the floor motorcycle jack? so you can go from room to room and not "let it down". ?

steve,

yeah, i'm working on that. i think i may have had a screw-up though. have you ever tried to take the steering stem nut off after you have pretty much disassembled the entire bike? i took the swingarm off after posting that pic -- and now i'm having a hard time getting enough torque on the Big Unit wrench to get the steering stem nut off. i guess that i'm going to have to lay the whole operation on it's side and stand on the frame while i loosen the nut... ? you'd think my wife would help with this important work.

Wrooster - I have done the same thing with regard to the tear down. Couple words of advise that might help. Don't tear the whole bike down to the frame unless you want to paint the frame or something. You don't need all those parts laying everywhere. It is easier to take one section apart at a time, back wheel, swing arm, etc. then go to the front. And as far as the nut on the stem goes, an impact wrench works sweet. I realize an air wrench might be a little difficult in the living room, (good way to see HOW much she loves you) but they also make a 1/2 inch electric one that comes in real handy. Good Luck. BTW My wife looked at the the pic and said "they have nicer furnature than we did when you had your bike in the livingroom" That was before we were married though!

the astute viewer will note the obvious absence of my wife, as opposed to her inclusion in the first pic that i posted at the top of this thread. let the guessing begin... :D

You must not have any small children to misplace your tools or parts. No dog or cat to carry anything off either.

Since you are probably taking the pictures I would guess your wife is out spending some of the bribe money you had to fork over! ?

Are your need tool caddies Christmas presents too?! :D

Damn wrooster, you only get to do it once a year? :D

For a minute there I thought I'd logged into some soft porn site or something! ?

Just a small tip for you guys or girls whose partners may complain about the smell,no matter how well you drain all the gas amd oil out of the bike you still get smell from the motor, carb etc.Place some Windex or Mr.Clean(windex seems to work better)by the bike in a small sealed container with some holes punched in the top ,or for you with the little ones or pets just spray some on a clean shop rag and hang it from the handlebar or footpeg,it does a fairly good of masking the smell.
